Painted collage

μελαγχολία

Melancholy is a shadow—a mood, a necessary state of reflection, and a pause from all that is dynamic and joyful. Artistic melancholy arises from many sources and allows for many interpretations, each revealing a different nuance of what quietly touches the soul. At certain moments, existential questions seek their answers precisely within these minor-key states.

The human being resembles a closed vessel, holding unspoken emotions and impressions—an intimate collage of feelings. The inner monologue is an inseparable part of the creative process: a revelation of the self through form and an attempt to enter into dialogue with the inner monologue of the viewer.

Variations on Melancholia interprets states of reverie, fantasy and inward withdrawal through painted collage. Several works revisit classical subjects—Danaë, Venus and the Mirror, Eurus—God of the East Wind and Echo—Nymph—transforming them through personal experience, fragmentation and the physical presence of texture.

The layered, relief-like structures invite a tactile gaze. The works establish correspondences between figuration and abstraction, form and emotion, the visible image and the unseen inner state.

The exhibition unfolds alongside the artist’s poetry collection Dali Ili. The poems introduce the viewer to its atmosphere and extend the experience of the paintings into language. Together, image, material and word create a shared space of resonance.

Through these works, I hope to touch something personal in the viewer and to create an encounter in which the paintings are not only seen, but inwardly experienced.
